Pen Puckett Puts Down Her Knitting Needles

Amber Rais from Webcor won Sunday’s inaugural Curi Classic race up Hwy 9 in Saratoga with an impressive solo sprint effort at the top. No one contested Amber because, well, it’s Amber.

The race started at Peets in Los Altos at a very respectable 9:15a.m. The field was about 40 deep and teams represented included Webcor Olympic/ National/ World Champion alliance, Touchstone, Cheerwine, Advil-Chapstick, Aarons Corporate Furniture Movers, Victory Brewing short/odd shirt combo, PABWPBT, and many others. After lots of hugging, jumping up and down with excitement, the field headed south towards Steven’s Creek Canyon (Do men hug before they start a ride/race by the way?)

The Touchstone Camp was rather scared that they might be off the back of the pack as they had mostly been off the bike. Kelly had been eating one too many pastries and basking under the Tuscan sun, Holly had been trotting around on snowshoes in Colorado and Penny penguin spotting whilst honeymooning in New Zealand. There had been a distinct lack of training and a distinct amount of holidaying. There was however determination and resolve, and also preloading with Peets.

Kelly gets the rider of the day and a big A+ for effort for hanging all the way to the top of Highway 9 with the ‘big guns’ after sunbathing for the past month, pretty much. For the record the magic motivating phrases are “just one more switch back Kelly” and “it flattens out a tiddy just around the corner here.”

Thanks To Katheryn for the get-together.
